[Watch] Jeffrey Vandersay bamboozles Riyan Parag in IND vs SL 3rd ODI

Sri Lanka leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay burst through Riyan Parag's leave to disturb the stumps in the 3rd ODI vs India at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The debutant failed to read the natural variation of the leg break and had to depart for 15 with two boundaries.

The dismissal occurred in the 16th over of the innings as the wrist-spinner sent down a leg-break, but it came in instead of turning in and struck the off and middle stump. It was also Vandersay's first wicket of the innings.

Vandersay, roped in as Wanindu Hasaranga's injury replacement for the last two ODIs, cut through India's line-up in the 2nd game when they were chasing 241 for victory. He took six wickets to help the home side defend 240 and win by 32 runs.

Parag, who came in for Arshdeep Singh, struck in his first over to remove Avishka Fernando, finishing with figures of 9-0-54-3. The youngster, who made his international debut in Zimbabwe, also dismissed Charith Asalanka and Dunith Wellalage.

India went on to restrict Sri Lanka for 248/9 in 50 overs, with Fernando smashing 96 and Kusal Mendis making 59. However, the tourists delivered another shoddy batting performance with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being the only batters aside from the debutant and Washington Sundar to reach double figures.

The Men in Blue were bowled out for 138 and lost their first bilateral ODI series to Sri Lanka since 1997. While Vandersay snared two scalps, the real star of the show was left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage as he finished with figures of 5.1-0-27-5.

It has indeed been a spirited performance by the Lankans as they looked short on confidence after a 3-0 sweep in the T20I series. Fernando, who scored 96, earned the Player of the Match award in the 3rd ODI.
