[Watch] Jeffrey Vandersay traps Virat Kohli in front to put India on the backfoot during 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka
Virat Kohli was trapped LBW as Jeffrey Vandersay took his fourth wicket to put India on the backfoot during the second India vs Sri Lanka ODI on Sunday, August 4. The second game of the three-match ODI series is being played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Chasing a target of 241 runs, the Men in Blue started on a positive note, with captain Rohit Sharma leading the charge. However, things soon changed as Jeffrey Vandersay took three wickets in no time. The leg spinner then got the big fish on the fourth ball of the 20th over.
Vandersay bowled a flipper as Virat Kohli leaned forward to defend, but missed it completely as the ball hit the pads. The umpire raised his finger immediately and the Lankan spinner got his fourth wicket of the match. Kohli scored 14 off 19 balls. The right-handed batter’s wicket left Men in Blue at 123/4 after 19.4 overs.
Here’s the video of the dismissal:
At the time of writing, the Men in Blue are 157/6 after 27 overs, needing 84 runs to win off 138 balls. Axar Patel (28 off 26 balls) and Washington Sundar (5 off 15 balls) are at the crease for the visitors.
Team India lose the plot after a good start
Indian captain Rohit Sharma came all-gun blazing as he stitched a 97-run opening partnership in 81 balls along with Shubman Gill (35). Before departing, the Indian captain smashed 64 off 44 balls, including five fours and four maximums.
However, India’s great start was thwarted as Jeffrey Vandersay turned the game on his head. The Sri Lankan leg-spinner took six wickets as the Men in Blue fell from 97/0 to 147-6.
Earlier in the game, Sri Lanka put 240 runs on the board, courtesy of some decent contributions from Avishka Fernando (40), Dinuth Wellalage (39), and Kamindu Mendis (40). For India, Washington Sundar took three wickets.
