[Watch] Jemimah Rodrigues smashes four back-to-back boundaries on Brisbane Heat debut in WBBL 2024

Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues's Brisbane Heat career got off to a good start as she smashed a 27-ball 45 against Hobart Hurricanes in the 10th match of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024. Her knock comprised seven silky boundaries.

Four of those fours came on consecutive deliveries in the 15th over of the first innings against right-arm medium pacer Heather Graham. Rodrigues lifted the second ball of the over to long-off, beating the diving long-on fielder's dive, sliced a wider delivery behind point, showed more conviction with a beautiful lofted drive over mid-off on the third ball, and went across to smack the fourth over covers.

Rodrigues came to bat at No. 3 after a big opening partnership between Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne. The Indian batter was quite lucky at the start and saw two catches dropped, one by Graham, before the fours. She struggled against the extra bounce on the pitch but adjusted steadily.

Harris, who scored 75 (57) was also dropped on the first ball of the 15th over while Rodrigues was put down for a third time after the assault, capping a horror day on the field for the Hurricanes.

However, the set batters got out in quick succession and Heat couldn't make the best use of their big foundation, ending at 173/5.

Still, 174 looked above par and defendable on the mostly flat but slightly dry track.

However, the Heat weren't up to the mark with the ball, with the Hurricanes openers Lizelle Lee and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge setting up a brilliant run-chase with their 55-run stand.

Elyse Villani and Graham finished things with seven wickets and two balls to spare.
