Joe Root starred with the bat for England in the ongoing first Test of the three-match series against Pakistan in Multan on Day 4 (Thursday, October 10). The right-handed batter took 305 deliveries to complete his double-century. This was his second double ton against the Men in Green after 254 in 2016.
Overall, Root smashed his sixth double hundred in Tests, the second-most by an England player, leaving behind former English skipper Sir Alastair Cook (5), with only Wally Hammond in front (7). Notably, Don Bradman, Kumar Sangakkara, and Brian Lara are in the top three with 12, 11, and nine double centuries, respectively, on the list of most double tons in the format.
Root achieved the milestone when he took a single off Agha Salman in the 100th over of England’s first innings. The 33-year-old took off his helmet and kissed the badge on it before raising his bat and going across to shake hands with batting partner Harry Brook.
Sharing the clip on X, Pakistan Cricket's official handle wrote:

Earlier on Day 3, Joe Root went past Cook (12,472) for the most runs by an England player in Tests. The right-handed batter also slammed his 35th Test ton, going by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar (34 centuries).

Joe Root and Harry Brook shared a marathon partnership of 300-plus for the fourth wicket to help England take lead against Pakistan in the first Test.
At the time of writing, the visitors were 561/3 after 114 overs, leading by five runs, with Root (211 off 317) and Brook (174 off 212) at the crease. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett also chipped in with 78 (85) and 84 (75), respectively.
Batting first, the Men in Green posted 556 in their first innings. Captain Shan Masood top scored with 151 off 177 deliveries, while Agha Salman and Abdullah Shafique chipped in with 104* (119) and 102 (184), respectively. Jack Leach emerged as the leading wicket-taker, picking up three wickets, while Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse shared two wickets apiece.
