“We needed someone to be there” – Jonny Bairstow on his crucial partnership with captain Tom Abell

Jonny Bairstow opened up about the importance of his partnership with captain Tom Abell during the innings break. The wicketkeeper-batter also spoke about his funny exchange with Joe Root in the contest. Bairstow said (via Cricbuzz):

“It's there and thereabouts (talking about the end total). It's a bit more of a graft, need to spend your time out there. We needed someone to be there after losing two in the powerplay.
"I said to him (Root) before he came on to bowl that it's either you or me and he started bowling lower than Malinga. It's a tricky wicket, so we posted a relatively decent score,” he added.

Welsh Fire posted 129/6 in their allotted 100 balls. Apart from Bairstow, Abell chipped in with 33 off 26. Tom Kohler-Cadmore (unbeaten 14 off 11) was the other batter to reach double digits.

Imad Wasim and Sam Cook emerged as the leading wicket-takers for Trent Rockets, picking up two wickets apiece. Luke Wood and Joe Root bagged one each.
