[Watch] Jordan Cox makes absolute mess of simple run-out opportunity during Melbourne Stars vs Melbourne Renegades BBL 2023/24 match

In a bid to be cheeky, Melbourne Renegades wicketkeeper Jordan Cox ended up missing a ridiculously easy chance to run out Melbourne Stars batter Beau Webster during the Melbourne derby of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023/24.

In the 14th over of the first innings, Webster got an inside edge onto Cox's pads and the ball deflected toward short third-man region. Sensing an opportunity to steal a quick single, Webster tried to scamper at the other end.

However, a miscommunication with non-striker Hilton Cartwright left Beau Webster stranded in the middle. Shaun Marsh lobbed the ball underarm to Jordan Cox with a chance to complete a simple run out. But it was almost a brain-fade moment for the wicketkeeper as instead of collecting the ball, he tried to deflect it onto the stumps.

The wicketkeeper's gloves couldn't deflect the ball onto the stumps, and instead, Coz dislodged the bails without having the ball in his glove. This gave enough time for the two batters to return to their respective ends safely despite the mix-up. Bowler Adam Zampa and some of the commentators on air were in disbelief and Cox had an embarrassing look on his face.

Here's the video of the missed chance:

Jordan Cox's mistake didn't cost the Renegades too much

Thankfully for the Melbourne Renegades, Beau Webster was dismissed in the very next over and Jordan Cox could breathe a sigh of relief. Cartwright did go on to score 38, but there wasn't really any real impetus to the Stars' innings as they ended up with just 137/8.

However, they did get off to a great start, dismissing the retiring Aaron Finch for a duck. Shaun Marsh and Jake Fraser-McGurk are trying to consolidate the chase for the Renegades and they will also hope to make use of the powerplay restrictions to get ahead in the game.
