[Watch] Journalist claims MS Dhoni broke TV in anger after CSK's IPL 2024 loss to RCB
An Indian journalist has claimed that MS Dhoni broke a TV in anger after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost their last league match to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 18. The loss saw RCB qualify to the playoffs, while CSK were knocked out of the edition.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs in a high-octane clash at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Set to chase a target of 219, CSK needed to score 201 to qualify for the playoffs. However, they were held to 191-7. Dhoni slammed 25 off 13 balls but perished to Yash Dayal in the last over.
Following the defeat, unconfirmed reports started doing the rounds that Dhoni did not shake hands with RCB players. Now a journalist has claimed that the CSK legend even broke a TV in anger. He stated that he received the information from Harbhajan Singh. In a viral video, the journalist is heard telling Sports Yaari:
"I have come to know about an exclusive scoop. I asked Bhajji [Harbhajan] paaji why Dhoni did not shake hands [with RCB players]. He said that not only did he not shake hands, he also broke a TV. He also punched something on the way back. He was very angry on missing [his stroke]."
Chennai Super Kings needed 17 runs off the last over to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. The first ball was a low full-toss and was slammed for a massive six over fine-leg. The RCB pacer, however, had his revenge very next ball as he had the CSK legend caught at deep backward square leg off a back-of-the-hand slower ball. He did not concede a boundary off the remaining four deliveries as Royal Challengers Bengaluru confirmed their place in the playoffs.
How MS Dhoni performed in IPL 2024
The CSK veteran handed over captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad at the start of IPL 2024. Playing as a keeper-batter in the lower order, the 43-year-old contributed 161 runs at a strike rate of 220.55, clobbering 14 fours and 13 sixes.
Also, with the BCCI bringing back the rule in which a capped Indian player will become uncapped if he hasn't played international cricket in the last five years, CSK have the option to retain their former captain as an uncapped player if they want to do so.
