South Africa’s Reeza Hendricks took a spectacular catch to dismiss England opener Phil Salt in their 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 match. The Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia hosted the clash on Friday, June 21.
Hendricks, stationed at covers, jumped to his left to grab the ball out of thin air in a flash to help the Proteas strike early. Salt perished for 11 runs off eight balls.
The dismissal came in the second over of England’s run chase. Kagiso Rabada bowled a full-length ball wide of off-stump and lured Salt into an aerial drive. The right-hander went towards the cover but Reeza leaped to his left and took a relatively difficult catch. Rabada looked ecstatic as teammates rushed to celebrate the wicket after striking his opening over of the key Super 8 clash.

Asked to bat first, SA put up 163/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Quinton de Kock top scored with 65 runs off 38 balls, hitting four sixes and as many boundaries. David Miller also scored a quickfire 43 off 28 deliveries with the help of two maximums and four boundaries. Reeza Hendricks and Tristan Stubbs chipped in with 19 (25) and 12* (11), respectively.
Jofra Archer starred with the ball for England, returning with figures of 3/40, while Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid bagged one wicket each.
At the time of writing, England were 41/1 after six overs, with skipper Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow at the crease.
Aiden Markram’s SA are unbeaten in the 2024 T20 World Cup. They beat co-hosts USA by 18 runs in their opening Super 8 clash.
England qualified for the Super 8 due to a better net run rate (NRR) than Scotland, with both teams ending up with five points in the group stage. The defending champions made an impressive start against co-hosts West Indies with an eight-wicket victory in their Super 8 opener.
