[Watch] Virat Kohli gets a reprieve as Khaled Ahmed botches run-out from close range in IND vs BAN 2024 2nd TestÂ
Bangladesh pacer Khaled Ahmed endured a horrid moment on the field after missing out on the easiest of run-out opportunities to hand Virat Kohli a second life in the ongoing second Test against India at Green Park in Kanpur. The right-arm fast bowler missed the stumps from point-blank range with Kohli stranded midway on the pitch.
Kohli desired a quick single after nudging the ball close to his body. However, Pant did not reciprocate and Kohli had already committed to the run. Ahmed collected the ball while continuing with his follow-through, and had all the time in the world to walk over to the stumps, dislodge the bails, and send Kohli back.
However, the bowler chose to execute an underarm throw just as he approached the stumps. Despite having all three stumps in sight from a very close range, he missed the target entirely and allowed Kohli to return to the crease.
Have a look at the incident right here:
Virat Kohli issued a piercing glare to Rishabh Pant at the other end after somehow managing to survive. The wicketkeeper-batter went over and gave the fellow Delhi player a hug to mend things up.
Khaled Ahmed had fumbled a run-out at the non-striker's end earlier this year against Sri Lanka
The pacer had tried to catch Kamindu Mendis off guard during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Sylhet in March 2024. On that occasion, Mendis had ventured out of the crease at the non-striker's end, and Khaled Ahmed had attempted to dislodge the bails in his run-up, but failed to make any contact.
Khaled Ahmed has had a forgettable outing against India as well so far. He was welcomed with consecutive sixes by Rohit Sharma to begin the innings. The pacer's figures read 0-43 after bowling just four overs.
As of writing, India are placed at 194/4 after 24 overs on Day 4 of the contest in Kanpur.
