[Watch] Kieron Pollard celebrates wildly after dismissing Andre Russell in MINY vs LAKR MLC 2024 clashÂ
MI New York skipper Kieron Pollard was over the moon after dismissing the dangerous Andre Russell in the do-or-die clash against the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR). The wicket ended LAKR's innings at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Sunday, July 21.
The defending champions put on a spirited bowling display when it mattered and reduced LAKR to 102-9 in the 17th over. However, Russell was still at the crease and inflicting some serious damage to stretch his team's total in the final overs.
The all-rounder smashed four boundaries against Rashid Khan, Romario Shepherd, and Trent Boult to take the total over the 130-run mark. He raced off to 35 runs off just 20 deliveries before finding himself up against his former national teammate Kieron Pollard in the final over.
Russell tried to pull Pollard's length delivery straightaway, but could only get a top edge. Wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran darted off to his left and claimed a great catch, triggering some wild celebrations from Pollard.
The veteran went berserk, screaming at the top of his lungs and punching the air wildly. Have a look at the wicket and Pollard's celebration right here:
LAKR finished with 130 runs on the board following a dismal batting performance. MI New York need to chase the score down to match LAKR's points tally in fourth place, and inside 18.2 overs to overcome the net run-rate difference.
Kieron Pollard has taken five wickets in MLC 2024
The veteran all-rounder has had a campaign to forget with the bat after failing to record double figures in even one match so far. However, he has been handy with the ball, making timely strikes for his team's cause. Pollard has taken five wickets in the tournament at an economy of just 6.40.
With MI New York on the brink of elimination, Pollard will have to step up to ensure qualification. At the time of writing, the side are placed at 78-3 after 12 overs, with Nicholas Pooran and Heath Richards at the crease.
Russell has come into the attack for LAKR as the opposition needs 53 runs off 38 balls to make it to the top four of the points table.
