[Watch] KL Rahul dropped off the first ball by first innings centurion on Day 4 of BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
Team India batter KL Rahul enjoyed a massive reprieve as he was dropped off the first ball on Day 4 (December 17) of the third Test in Brisbane. With India on the ropes at 51/4 in response to Australia's 445, Aussie skipper Pat Cummins produced a back-of-a-length delivery that climbed on Rahul.
The batter, still loose at the start of the day, had a needless poke, resulting in a healthy outside edge that went straight to Steve Smith at second slip. However, Smith unfathomably put down the chance that came to him at the perfect speed and height.
Here is a video of the potentially massive moment on the first ball of Day 4:
Rahul was on 33 and added useful runs since the dropped catch as he got to a well-earned half-century.
Meanwhile, India, who began the day on 51/4, were largely untroubled since the first-ball drop and moved to 74/4 in 23 overs with skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul out in the middle.
However, the former continued his poor run by edging Cummins through to the wicket-keeper to be dismissed for a 27-ball 10.
KL Rahul was the lone ranger on a forgettable Day 3 for India
With the series tied at 1-1, Team India has endured a forgettable outing thus far in the third Test at Brisbane.
After winning the toss and bowling first, they conceded a massive 445 to the hosts, thanks to centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith. Only Jasprit Bumrah impressed with the ball for India with figures of 6/76 from 28 overs.
Despite rain minimizing play drastically on Days 1 and 3, the Aussie bowlers picked up four crucial top-order wickets in no time on Day 3 to leave India reeling. Rahul waged a lone battle, moving to 33 at stumps on Day 3.
While Starc accounted for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins dismissed Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant to leave India 44/4 at one stage.
