[Watch] KL Rahul hits a brilliant cover drive off Pat Cummins to reach 3,000 runs in 1st IND vs AUS 2024-25 BGT 1st Test

India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul hit a brilliant cover drive off Australian captain Pat Cummins on Day 1 of the first Test in Perth to reach 3,000 runs in the format on Friday, November 22. The right-handed batter achieved the landmark in his 92nd innings (54th Test).

The shot came next delivery after Cummins surprised Rahul with a back-of-a-length ball that seamed back and hit the toe end of the bat but didn’t carry to the wicketkeeper-batter. The pacer bowled a full and wide delivery. Rahul found enough room in place and laced it through the offside that raced away for a boundary.

KL Rahul looked impressive with the bat before getting adjudged caught behind by wicketkeeper Alex Carey off Mitchell Starc. He scored 26 runs off 74 balls, failing to convert a good start into a big score. Australia took a successful review but the decision looked inconclusive, leading to an intense chat between Rahul and the on-field umpire.

As a result, Rahul failed to turn things around in the red-ball format. The Karnataka-born player recently managed 4 and 10 for India A in the second unofficial Test against Australia A.

That came after he was dropped from the playing XI during the home Test series against New Zealand after returning with 0 and 12 in the first Test of the three-match series.
