KL Rahul perishes for 37 to a stunning catch by Nathan McSweeney in BGT 2024-25 2nd Test

Australia's pace spearhead Mitchell Starc provided his side with the second breakthrough on Day 1 of the second Test against India in Adelaide, that of KL Rahul. Nathan McSweeney took an excellent low catch at gully as extra bounce from the left-arm speedster did the trick.

The dismissal occurred in the 19th over of the innings as Pat Cummins brought the New South Wales speedster back for his second spell. Rahul took a brace off the first ball and followed it up with a couple of dot balls. The fourth delivery of the over generated some extra bounce and the Karnataka-born cricketer seemed to be in two minds about whether to play or leave. In the end, he dabbed at the ball loosely.

McSweeney dived to his right and took a low catch. The umpires decided to go upstairs and check the catch which was deemed clean, and the opener had to walk back for 37.

The 32-year-old had two reprieves in Scott Boland's first over of the innings. The Victorian had Rahul nicking on the first ball to Alex Carey behind the stumps, only to have overstepped. Later, the right-handed batter had edged to the slip cordon; however, Usman Khawaja dropped a fairly tough chance to his right.

Starc, meanwhile, provided the home side with a dream start by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal off the first ball of the innings, trapping him lbw. Boland eventually managed to remove Gill, while Starc got the better of Virat Kohli.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma had earlier won the toss and elected to bat first, announcing three changes. Rohit, Shubman Gill and Ravichandran Ashwin replaced Dhruv Jurel, Devdutt Padikkal and Washington Sundar. Australia, meanwhile, triggered one change as Scott Boland replaced Josh Hazlewood, who suffered a side strain in Perth.
