[Watch] KL Rahul perishes to a short ball by Pat Cummins for 7 in BGT 2024-25 2nd Test

Australian captain Pat Cummins got the better of Team India opener KL Rahul cheaply on Day 2 of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval. The right-arm speedster sent in four full-pitched deliveries before a short-pitched one to get himself on the scoreboard in the second innings.

The dismissal occurred in the fourth over of the innings as Cummins bowled a mean short-pitched delivery onto the ribs. With Rahul, who scored a promising 37 in the opening dig, trying to help the delivery onto the fine leg, all he managed was an edge and Alex Carey took the catch above his head.

Meanwhile, Australia put themselves in a position of advantage for now as they eked out a 157-run lead. The home side got through to stumps on Day 1 at 86/2 after Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne battled hard under tricky conditions. Jasprit Bumrah got the only wicket on the first day, nipping out Usman Khawaja.

Bumrah also struck twice in the first hour on day two, dismissing McSweeney and Steve Smith. The two standout batters for the hosts were Labuschagne (64) and Head (140). Head, the hometown boy, got to the magical three-figure mark of 111 deliveries. The left-hander's innings ended as Mohammed Siraj castled him with a low full-toss. Siraj and Bumrah shared eight wickets between them, while Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Mitchell Marsh and Nitish Reddy got rid of Labuschagne.

Team India lead the five-Test series by 1-0 after thumping Australia by 295 runs at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The defeat at the Optus Stadium also proved to be the first for Australia at the venue.
