[Watch] KL Rahul takes a well-judged catch at slips to send Mushfiqur Rahim back for just 8 runs in IND vs BAN 2024 1st TestÂ
Team India batter KL Rahul took a sharp catch at the second slip to seal Mushfiqur Rahim's exit at the start of the second session of Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh. Rahul made a tricky catch look relatively easy by keeping his eyes on the ball traveling at pace after flying off the bat's edge.
Bangladesh desperately needed a partnership after a top-order collapse orchestrated by the Indian pace trio. After ending the first session on 26-3, the visitors lost skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto in the 12th over, bringing Shakib Al Hasan to the crease. It was up to the experienced all-rounder and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim to repair the innings.
Rahim was tested by Bumrah the very next over after Shanto's dismissal. Mushfiqur held his guard for most of the over, showing composure to leave the ball with judgment. The penultimate delivery of the over saw the right-handed batter trying to prod the ball away to the off-side. But the ball flew towards the slip cordon after claiming an edge, bringing KL Rahul into play.
The fielder was quick with his reflexes to bring his hands down and managed to catch the ball just as it was about to pass him. Rahul cut a surprised and relieved figure after the ball stuck to his hands.
Have a look at the take right here:
Mushfiqur Rahim departed after scoring just eight runs off 14 deliveries. He began his knock with promise, hitting two glorious boundaries off Bumrah and Akash Deep. Mushfiqur had recently scored a match-winning 191 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, and the team needed a similar display from him against India's mammoth first-innings total.
Bangladesh in deep trouble after losing the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim
Mushfiqur Rahim was Bangladesh's biggest bet in a shaky batting unit against a potent bowling attack. He boasted an average of 43.14 in Tests against India, but could not get going this time.
Mushfiqur's dismissal left Bangladesh reeling at 40-5 after 13 overs. As of writing, the visitors have progressed to 64-5, with Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das at the crease.
The duo need to bat out of their skins to avoid handing India a massive first-innings lead.
