[Watch] KL Rahul unhappy after controversial dismissal in BGT 2024-25 1st Test

Team India batter KL Rahul expressed his displeasure after being controversially given out on Day 1 of the first Test against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Friday, November 22. A lot of discussion surrounding the same has been done online.

Rahul walked out to bat alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal and saw wickets falling at regular intervals at the other end. The 32-year-old was a bit slow to get off the blocks but managed to get a couple of boundaries under his belt when he had a good look at the surface.

On the second ball of the 23rd over, KL Rahul attempted to play a shot, but there was a sound as the ball passed the bat. With the on-field umpire ruling it not out, Australia decided to review the decision and sent it upstairs, with replays showing there was a spike as the ball passed the bat. The on-field decision was overturned and Rahul was adjudged out for 26 runs off 74 balls.

The right-handed batter looked unhappy with the decision and had a word with the umpire regarding the same, maybe saying the bat made contact with the front foot pad as well.

7Cricket, one of the broadcasters for this tour, shared the replay of the same, with Matthew Hayden on commentary saying:

"His pad and bat are not together at that point in time as the ball passes. It's (bat hitting pad) after, in fact, the ball passes the edge. Does Snicko pick up the sound of the bat hitting the pad? We're assuming (Snicko) may be the outside edge of the bat but that may not be the case."

Stand-in Team India skipper Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and decided to bat first on Day 1 of the first Test in Perth. The Men in Blue were in trouble early on as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (0 off 8) and No. 3 Devdutt Padikkal (0 off 23) were dismissed without troubling the scorers.

Virat Kohli (5 off 12) and KL Rahul also departed, with Dhruv Jurel (11 off 20) and Washington Sundar (4 off 15) being the latest wickets to fall after Lunch.

Team India will hope that Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy initiate a counterattack and help them come back in this contest.
