[Watch] Kuldeep Yadav foxes Charith Asalanka with dip and turn during India vs Sri Lanka first ODI

Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka had to depart early once again, this time due to a brilliant delivery from India's Kuldeep Yadav during the first ODI between the two teams in Colombo on Friday (August 2). Asalanka departed for just 14 runs off 21 balls.

The southpaw didn't have a great T20I series and his poor form continued in the first ODI as well. Kuldeep got a delivery on a good length to dip and turn just enough. Asalanka tried to play it fine towards the third-man fence and opened the face of his bat, only to hit it straight into the hands of Indian captain Rohit Sharma at first slip.

Here's a video of the dismissal:

Asalanka looked dejected while making his way back to the pavilion and understandably so as he might have realized it was a pretty loose shot with first slip in place.

Sri Lanka in dire straits as India spin a web

On a dry pitch, Sri Lanka opted to bat first expecting the pitch to turn even more as the game progressed. However, Indian bowlers have kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals to put the Lankans in a spot of bother.

Mohammed Siraj opened the wicket tally for the Men in Blue with the scalp of Avishka Fernando. Shivam Dube backed it up with his maiden ODI wicket in the form of Kusal Mendis. Post that, it has been the spinners who have spun a web and caused massive problems for the hosts.

Axar Patel dismissed Sadeera Samarawickrama, followed by Kuldeep Yadav who got the wicket of Asalanka, and then it was Washington Sundar who sent back the big fish in Pathum Nissanka.

Dunith Wellalage has walked out to bat with a positive mindset and has survived a couple of close shouts at the time of writing. Sri Lanka need to get past the 200-run mark to pose a challenge.
