[Watch] Kwena Maphaka dismisses Babar Azam to pick up his maiden Test wicket in SA vs PAK 2024-25 2nd Test

South Africa's young gun Kwena Maphaka claimed the prized wicket of Babar Azam in the ongoing second Test against Pakistan at the Newlands in Cape Town. This was the teenage speedster's first-ever wicket in the longest format of the game.

The dismissal came in the 35th over of Pakistan's innings. Babar attempted a glance through the fine-leg region but only managed an edge to wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne, who took a straightforward catch. The wicket broke a crucial partnership of 98 runs between Babar and Mohammad Rizwan to give the Proteas the upper hand in the game.

Babar was dismissed for a fighting 58 under trying circumstances, again failing to convert a solid start into a really big score.

Here's the dismissal:

The youngster was one of the three changes made by the home side following their two-wicket victory in the opening Test at the Supersport Park in Centurion. The left-arm seamer replaced Dane Paterson in the playing XI, while Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj are playing in place of Tony de Zorzi and Corbin Bosch.

The 18-year-old, who made his international debut recently following his outstanding performance in the U19 World Cup, also dismissed the former Pakistan captain once each in the ODI and T20I series that preceded the Test rubber.

As far as the Cape Town Test is concerned, South Africa, who batted first, piled on 615. Ryan Rickleton was the standout batter for the Proteas, smashing 259 while captain Temba Bavuma (106) and Kyle Verreynne (100) also notched up centuries. Furthermore, Marco Jansen (62) and Keshav Maharaj (40) played quick-fire cameos.

The Proteas, on Sunday, also discovered that they will face Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final next year in June. Australia are also the defending champions of the competition.
