[Watch] Lord's crowd boos Josh Inglis as he claims a catch in the ENG vs AUS 2024 4th ODI
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis was booed by the crowd in the ongoing ODI against England on Friday, September 27. The iconic Lord's serves as the venue for the fourth game of the five-match ODI series.
Inglis was drafted into the side after Cameron Green was ruled out of the ongoing tour owing to a back injury. He has donned the gloves, with Alex Carey being fielded as a batter for this contest. On the fourth ball of the 17th over, Mitchell Starc bowled one down the pads and there was a sound as it went past Harry Brook to Inglis, who took a catch.
Starc and Australia animatedly appealed for a caught behind and the decision was ruled in their favor. Brook decided to review it and while he did make some contact with the ball, it was short of Inglis when he collected it.
The crowd at Lord's followed the incident on the replay screen and voiced their disapproval of that claim with loud boos.
Take a look at the incident here:
A similar incident, concerning a batter dismissal, occurred in the Ashes 2023 when Alex Carey ran out Jonny Bairstow, who was wandering out of his crease. England went on to win the game and lead the series 2-0 after that match at Lord's.
England continue to go along smoothly against Australia in the ENG vs AUS fourth ODI
After rain forced a one-and-a-half-hour delay, Australia won their first toss of the ODI leg of the tour and asked the hosts to bat first. Phil Salt (22 off 27) and Ben Duckett (63 off 62) stitched together a 48-run partnership before the latter was dismissed. Will Jacks (10 off 14) was dismissed cheaply before a 79-run partnership between Ben Duckett and Harry Brook was broken by Adam Zampa.
At the time of writing, Brook has been joined in the middle by wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith. England are on 150/3 after 23 overs.
