[Watch] Luke Jongwe brings out shoe celebration after dismissing Dhruv Jurel in IND vs ZIM 1st T20I
Zimbabwe seamer Luke Jongwe pulled off a unique shoe celebration after getting his first wicket against India in the first T20I at the Harare Sports Club on July 6. The 29-year-old held one of his shoes close to his ear, like holding a telephone, replicating South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi's celebration.
The dismissal occurred in the 10th over of the innings as India chased 116 runs. Dhruv Jurel tried to hit another boundary over extra cover like the previous delivery. With the ball holding on the surface and Jongwe delivering a slow off-cutter, the right-hander had mistimed it and Wessly Madhevere took a simple catch. By then, Jurel became the fifth Indian batter to get dismissed for a single-figure score.
It's worth noting that the Harare-born cricketer had showcased this celebration before too during a T20I against Pakistan.
Luke Jongwe's final over goes expensive but Zimbabwe close out the match for a series lead
Meanwhile, Jongwe returned to the attack to bowl the 17th over of the innings when the tourists required 30 off 18 deliveries. However, he conceded 12 runs as Washington Sundar struck a four and a six to bring the equation down to 18 off the final two overs. Blessing Muzarbani bowled a stupendous 18th to concede only a couple of runs, leaving Shubman Gill's men to score 16 off the last.
Tendai Chatara, who had one over left in him, kept Washington Sundar tied to an end without giving a boundary ball. He then took his wicket in the second-last delivery. Zimbabwe won by 13 runs and took a 1-0 series lead with four more fixtures to go. Chatara and skipper Sikandar Raza took three wickets each.
Earlier, Clive Madande's unbeaten 29 proved to be quite vital as he hit three boundaries in the final over to take the home side to 115 in 20 overs.
