[Watch] Marnus Labuschagne plays a failed scoop and is caught in the ENG vs AUS 2024 3rd ODI

Australia middle order batter Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed looking to play the scoop and was caught in the ongoing ODI between England and Australia on Tuesday, September 24. The match is being hosted by the Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street.

The dismissal came on the second ball of the 28th over. Marnus Labuschagne walked out to bat following the fall of Cameron Green's (42 off 49) wicket and saw through the initial couple of deliveries he faced.

The 30-year-old decided to play a scoop off the bowling of Will Jacks but got a leading edge and England's keeper for this contest, Jamie Smith, did well to get under that one and took the catch.

Take a look at the dismissal here:

Labuschagne's dismissal left Australia at 132/4 as he was dismissed for a three-ball duck. Alex Carey walked out to the middle following his wicket.

Australia lost the toss for the third time on their English tour and were asked to bat first under overcast conditions by the hosts. The visitors had a poor start as they lost stand-in opener Matthew Short (14 off 12) cheaply before Mitchell Marsh (24 off 38) was dismissed.

Cameron Green (42 off 49) and Steve Smith (60 off 82) stitched together an 84-run partnership in the middle. The pair played some strokes and helped Australia recover from 47/2 to 131/3, with the latter being the first to be dismissed and Labuschagne following suit. Smith registered his first half-century of the series before a terrific catch from Brydon Carse ended his stay in the middle.

At the time of writing, Australia are on 189/5 after 38 overs. Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell are in the middle with the aim to help Australia reach a good total.
