[Watch] Martin Guptill and Pawan Negi help Southern Super Stars lift the Legends League Cricket 2024 trophy with a thrilling Super Over victory

Former New Zealand batter Martin Guptill and Pawan Negi clinched victory for the Southern Super Stars in the Legends League Cricket 2024 final against Konark Suryas Odisha. The match took place at the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar on Wednesday, October 16.

The game went into Super Over following a heroic knock from Odisha's Yusuf Pathan, who nearly clinched victory for his team. Captain Irfan Pathan and Yusuf batted for Odisha in the Super Over. Yusuf was dismissed after hitting a six, while a boundary from Richard Levi helped set a target of 14 runs.

Guptill launched consecutive sixes off the first two balls for the Southern Super Stars, reducing the target to just two runs with four balls left. However, Diwesh Pathania turned the tide by dismissing Guptill on the third ball.

Chirag Gandhi managed a single on the fourth ball, and Negi sealed the victory with a four on the next delivery, securing the Legends League Cricket 2024 trophy for the Super Stars.

Hamilton Masakadza shines with the bat for Southern Super Stars

Konark Suryas Odisha won the toss and chose to bowl first. Diwesh Pathania made an early breakthrough by dismissing Shreevats Goswami for a duck.

Martin Guptill contributed 27 off 25 balls, while Hamilton Masakadza delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 83 runs off 58 balls with the help of eight boundaries and five sixes. Toward the end, Pawan Negi added 33 runs off 24 balls, helping the Southern Super Stars finish their innings at 164 for six in 20 overs

In response, Konark Suryas struggled, requiring 72 runs from the last five overs with only four wickets remaining. Yusuf Pathan exploded with a stunning 24 runs off Suboth Bhati in the 16th over.

The former Indian all-rounder followed up by hitting Negi for 28 runs in the 19th over, bringing the target down to just seven runs needed in the last six balls. Chaturanga de Silva was exceptional in the last over, conceding only six runs and sending the game into a Super Over. Yusuf scored 85 off 38 balls, smashing six fours and eight maximums.
