Mumbai's Marine Drive was packed with fans awaiting their 2024 T20 World Cup-winning Indian squad for the victory parade on Thursday, July 4. An open-top bus parade with the Indian team is set to take place from Nariman Point to the Wankhede Stadium along Marine Drive as part of the celebrations.
Due to the massive gathering, all the vehicles came to a standstill, with the people in a joyous mood.
Here are a couple of videos of fans flooding the roads at Mumbai's Marine Drive awaiting the Indian team parade:
Security has been tightened in and around the area, with the parade expected to go on for almost two hours. A similar parade took place in Mumbai after India's maiden T20 World Cup victory in 2007.
Rohit Sharma's men have had a busy schedule today after the team arrived from Barbados to Delhi in the morning. Following their arrival, they went to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence before flying to Mumbai.
After the bus parade, the team will gather at the Wankhede Stadium for a felicitation ceremony where the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) will award them ₹125 crore cash prize for winning the T20 World Cup.
Team India produced a record-breaking run at the 2024 T20 World Cup
Team India produced an incredible brand of cricket in the West Indies and the USA to win the 2024 T20 World Cup.
With the pressure of not winning an ICC event since the 2013 Champions Trophy, the Asian giants went on an unbeaten streak through the competition. The Men in Blue won three consecutive games to top Group A, followed by another hattrick of victories to finish atop the Super Eight Group 1.
Rohit Sharma and company then overcame their knockout woes by thrashing defending champions England in the semi-final by 68 runs. In the summit clash, India looked to be headed toward another heartbreaking defeat before a terrific finish saw them pull off a seven-run victory.
India became the first-ever T20 World Cup champions to remain unbeaten throughout the tournament. It was also their fourth World Cup triumph and the first since the 2011 ODI World Cup at home.
