[Watch] Mehidy Hasan Miraz gets dismissed on 97 as Kagiso Rabada takes six-fer in 1st BAN vs SA 2024 Test

Bangladesh batter Mehidy Hasan Miraz fell short of a century by just three runs during the first Test against South Africa on Thursday (October 24) in Mirpur. Pacer Kagiso Rabada got him out caught at slips for his sixth wicket of the third innings and ninth of the match.

It happened in the 90th over of the innings. Rabada hurried him for pace twice and then bowled a sharp length ball on the off-stump, cramping him for room. Mehidy moved away and tried to guide it over the slip cordon but the ball flew off the outside half of his bat to the right of the third slip where Wian Mulder completed the catch.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was distraught while walking back. He came to bat when Bangladesh were at 106/5, trailing by around 100 runs.

He found a good mix of attrition and flair, taking 191 deliveries and scoring 10 boundaries and a six to get close to his second Test century. He got out trying to score runs after Rabada had run through most of the batting order at the other end.

Mehidy was the 10th wicket to fall and Bangladesh were bowled out for 307, setting South Africa a target of 106.

South Africa in pole position for a win after Mehidy Hasan Miraz's wicket

South Africa put the foot on the paddle in the final innings, taking no risks with the 106-run target. They raced to 42 runs in less than 10 overs, with Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi scoring quick boundaries.

Taijul Islam knocked over Markram on the fifth ball of the 10th over but with almost half of the target shaved off, the Test looked set for an easy win for South Africa. With a win here, they'll continue their 22-year-long unbeaten streak against Bangladesh in Tests.
