LSG registered a 19-run victory against MI and ended their IPL 2024 campaign with 14 points
Lucknow Super Giants batted first in the match after losing the toss and overcame a sedate start to notch up a daunting total of 214/6.
Nicholas Pooran was the protagonist for his side with the bat, playing a blistering knock of 75 (29). Captain KL Rahul (55) anchored the innings for the visiting team with a sensible half-century. Nuwan Thushara (3/28) and Piyush Chawla (3/29) were the picks of MI bowlers.
Rohit Sharma (68) and Naman Dhir (62*) then fought valiantly with aggressive half-centuries for MI but their efforts were in vain as they did not receive any support from other batters. Mumbai Indians could only reach 196/6 in 20 overs and lost the match by 19 runs.
After the conclusion of the match, LSG captain KL Rahul reflected on his team's performance this season, saying:
"Very disappointing, at the beginning of the season I felt we had a strong team and all bases covered. A couple of injuries at the start, that always happens but those really hampered us. We did not come together as bowlers and batters earlier, it was a good game today."
He added:
"We would have liked to play these games more where the batters score runs, the bowlers take wickets. Credit to the franchise for investing in fast bowlers, we sent Yudhvir and Mayank to South Africa to train with Morne (Morkel). Mohsin was injured too, the franchise took great care of the fast bowlers."
MI finished at the bottom of the points table for the second time in three years. LSG narrowly missed out on a playoff spot as they ended their IPL 2024 campaign with 14 points.
