[Watch] Miscommunication leads to Sikandar Raza's bizarre run out during IND vs ZIM 5th T20I
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza had to depart to the pavilion after a miscommunication with teammate Johnathan Campbell during the fifth T20I against India on Sunday, July 14. Raza's scratchy knock of eight runs off 12 balls this came to a tame end.
The Zimbabwe skipper tried to work a delivery from Ravi Bishnoi towards the fine leg boundary, but he couldn't get decent contact on it as the ball found Shivam Dube at short fine leg. Both Raza and Campbell were initially hesitant to take the run but then decided to take on Dube's throw.
Shivam Dube decided to throw at the non-striker's end where Sikandar Raza tried to scamper home. However, the hesitation meant that the Zimbabwe captain was well out of his crease as the bails were dislodged with a direct hit.
Here's a video of the run-out:
Raza was distraught as he made his walk back to the pavilion. Indian captain Shubman Gill and other players meanwhile couldn't believe that they had such a massive scalp through such a tame dismissal.
Sikandar Raza's wicket proved to be the final nail in Zimbabwe's coffin
A fine 58 from Sanju Samson helped India post a competitive target of 167 on the board. While the target seemed to be within reach, Zimbabwe kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
The likes of Tadiwanashe Marumani (27) and Dion Myers (34) got off to starts but couldn't convert them into big scores. With the required run rate creeping up, Zimbabwe needed Sikandar Raza to score big. But the unfortunate run-out extinguished the last ounce of hope that the hosts had.
A quickfire 27 from Faraz Akram wasn't enough as Zimbabwe could only muster 125 before getting bowled out in the 19th over. India won the game by 42 runs and sealed an emphatic 4-1 series win.
