[Watch] Mitchell Marsh drops a dolly to give Hardik Pandya a second life in IND vs AUS 2024 T20 World Cup clash

In a bit of a déjà vu moment for Australian captain Mitchell Marsh, he dropped a bonafide dolly to give India's Hardik Pandya a second life in the crucial Super-Eights clash at the 2024 T20 World Cup in St Lucia on Monday.

The incident occurred on the second ball of the 17th over. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa hurled it wide and Pandya threw his bat at it without using his feet. The ball took off his top-edge and floated to the backward point region.

Marsh came running from the point but never settled under it. He got both hands to the ball but because he was constantly on the move, couldn't maintain his balance, allowing the ball to pop out. Watch the video of the drop here:

Marsh has been notorious for dropping catches of late. He shelled one against Virat Kohli in Australia's campaign opener against India at the 2023 World Cup. This was also his fifth drop of this tournament, the most among all teams.

A graphic on the broadcast confirmed that Australia have the worst catching efficiency in the tournament among the Super Eight teams - just 70.6%. The overall out-fielding in saving boundaries and preventing doubles was also poor from a side that is usually renowned for using their fielding as a big weapon to change games.

Hardik Pandya makes Australia pay for Mitchell Marsh's drop

Like in the 2023 World Cup, Pandya made Marsh and Australia pay for the catch. He was batting at 5 (7) at the time and ended the innings with 27 (17), hitting a four and two sixes on his way. That innings built on the platform set by Rohit Sharma's 92 (41) and Suryakumar Yadav's 31 (16), helping India reach 205/5 in the first innings.
