[Watch] Mitchell Marsh gets ‘no conclusive evidence’ ruling despite ball clearly hitting pad first in BGT 2024-25 2nd Test
Australian batter Mitchell Marsh stayed put after a controversial call by the third umpire failed to have 'conclusive evidence' to overturn the on-field call of not out. The incident happened on Day 2 of the second Test against India at the Adelaide Oval.
During the third ball of the 58th over, Ravichandran Ashwin drew Marsh to play on the front foot. The Indians believed the Aussie was rapped on the pads and appealed for lbw. The on-field umpire said it was not out, with the visitors deciding to review the call.
The replays showed that the bat was adjacent to the pad when the ball made contact. When checked on the Snickometer, there was a spike with the ball making evident contact with the pad first rather than the bat.
The third umpire for this match, Richard Kettleborough, said there was 'no conclusive evidence' and sided with the on-field call. Team India were visibly shocked and were seen in dialogue with the umpire.
