[Watch] Mitchell Marsh takes stunning catch as Shubman Gill falls cheaply in BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh pulled off a blinder of a catch on Day 3 of the third Test against India in Brisbane to see the back of Shubman Gill. The West Australian took a brilliant overhead catch as the home side was in jubilation after getting their second breakthrough of the morning.
The dismissal came in the second over of India's first innings as Gill took the bait by driving Mitchell Starc on the up. Marsh, stationed at gully, plucked the ball out of thin air, causing the right-hander to perish for a single off three deliveries. It was also the second wicket for the left-arm speedster as he had dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal on the second ball of the innings, caught by the seam-bowling all-rounder again at forward square leg.
In the process, the New South Welshman dismissed Jaiswal and Gill for the second time in his career. Australia also nipped out Virat Kohli as Josh Hazlewood got the wicket before the players walked off for lunch.
Mitchell Marsh fails to reach double figures for the second consecutive innings
While the all-rounder contributed by taking two catches on Day 3 in Brisbane, the 33-year-old could not chip in with the bat. After managing nine runs in Adelaide, he perished for five in Brisbane. The West Australian was one of the six victims of Jasprit Bumrah, edging one to Virat Kohli at slip. However, his failure hardly impacted Australia as they finished with a healthy total of 445 in their first innings.
After Rohit Sharma asked Australia to bat on Day 1, only 13.2 overs could be possible due to persistent rain. While the hosts lost three quick wickets on Day 2, they found a 241-run partnership between Steve Smith and Travis Head as the pair struck centuries. Alex Carey also chipped in with 70 to give their side the upper hand.
