[Watch] Mitchell Santner cleans up Kusal Mendis with a peach in SL vs NZ 2nd T20I 2024

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner delivered a stunning delivery to dismiss Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis in the second of the two-match T20I series on Sunday, November 10. The match was played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Sri Lanka.

The dismissal occurred on the first ball of the third over of Sri Lanka's innings. Santner bowled a full delivery on middle and leg stump. Mendis went deep in his crease to defend but was beaten as the ball spun away and hit the top of the off stump. He had little chance, as Santner provided an early breakthrough for the visitors with a beauty of a delivery.

The Sri Lankan opener had a disappointing outing, scoring just two runs off seven balls. Mendis' dismissal left the hosts at 6/1 after 2.1 overs.

Here’s a video of the dismissal:

Chasing 109, Kusal Perera (3), Kamindu Mendis (1), and Charith Asalanka (0) were all dismissed cheaply. Lockie Ferguson claimed a hat-trick for New Zealand. Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 15, and Wanindu Hasaranga was out for three.

At the time of writing, Sri Lanka were 74 for six after 14 overs, needing 35 runs from 36 balls, with Pathum Nissanka (40) and Dunith Wellalage (0) at the crease.

Wanindu Hasaranga was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, taking four wickets, while Matheesha Pathirana claimed three. As a result, the visitors were bowled out for 108 in 19.3 overs.
