[Watch] Mitchell Santner gets Shubman Gill lbw absolutely plumb in 2024 2nd IND vs NZ Test

New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner dismissed Shubman Gill via lbw to provide the visitors the first breakthrough on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test against India in Pune on Friday, October 25. Gill got off to a promising start, scoring 30 runs off 72 balls but failed to consolidate as the hosts lost their second wicket for 50.

The dismissal came in the 22nd over of India’s first innings. Santner bowled a quicker delivery that hit Gill on the front pad. The right-handed batter looked plumb in front of the middle stump and on-field umpire Paul Reiffel raised his hands in a flash.

Shubman Gill had missed the first Test against New Zealand due to neck stiffness. The 25-year-old had slammed a century against Bangladesh in the recently concluded two-match Test series.

Mitchell Santner strikes twice ft. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli as New Zealand starts Day 2 on a high against India

Mitchell Santner struck twice to provide a promising start to New Zealand against India on Day 2 of the second Test. Besides Shubman Gill, the left-arm spinner cleaned up Virat Kohli for just one run.

At the time of writing, India were 67-3, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant at the crease. Earlier on Day 1, Tim Southee bowled India skipper Rohit Sharma for a duck.

Batting first, the Kiwis posted 259 in their first innings. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra starred with the bat, scoring 76 off 141 and 65 off 105, respectively. Washington Sundar starred with the ball, returning with career-best figures of 7/59, while Ravichandran Ashwin bagged three wickets.

The Tom Latham-led side are 1-0 ahead in the three-match Test series. New Zealand won the opening game by eight wickets in Bengaluru, courtesy of a century from Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry’s fifer. It was their first Test win in India after 1988.

India are yet to lose a Test series at home since 2012-13 against England.
