[Watch] Mitchell Starc dismisses Rishabh Pant in first over of Day 3 of BGT 2024-25 2nd Test

Australia ace pacer Mitchell Starc dismissed Rishabh Pant in the first over of Day 3 in the ongoing second Test against India in Adelaide on Sunday, December 8. The left-handed batter departed for 28 runs off 31 balls, caught behind by Steve Smith in the slip cordon. With the prized scalp, Starc reduced the tourists to 128-6. This was his eighth scalp of the match, having picked up a six-fer in the first essay.

The dismissal came off the last delivery of the opening over, 25th of India’s second innings. Starc bowled a full-length ball angled in and pitched on off before it straightened after pitching. Pant played on the wrong line and edged it slips, where Smith moved to his right to complete the catch.

As a result, Rishabh Pant once again failed to score big in the ongoing Test series. The southpaw has returned with scores of 37, 1, 21, and 28 (today) in the first two Tests.


Australia on track of eight consecutive wins in pink-ball Tests; Rishabh Pant’s wicket ends India’s hope

Australia are on track to win their eighth consecutive game in day-night Tests after Rishabh Pant perished early on Day 3. A win would help the Aussies level the series 1-1.

At the time of writing, the visitors were 140-6, with Ravichandran Ashwin and Nitish Kumar Reddy at the crease. They are still trailing by 17 runs.

Batting first, India were bundled out for 180. Starc picked up a six-fer, while skipper Pat Cummins and Scott Boland bagged two wickets apiece.

In response, Australia posted 337, taking a 157-run first innings lead.

Travis Head starred with the bat, scoring 140 off 141 balls, comprising four sixes and 17 boundaries. Marnus Labuschagne also chipped in with 63. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj bagged four wickets apiece for the tourists.

India are leading the five-match series 1-0 following their 295-run win against Australia in Perth.

The two teams will lock horns in the third Test at Gabba in Brisbane, starting on December 14 from 5.50 am IST.
