[Watch] Mitchell Starc sends Yashasvi Jaiswal packing for a duck in 1st IND vs AUS BGT 2024-25 Test
Australia ace pacer Mitchell Starc got rid of India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck on Day 1 of the first Test of the five-match series in Perth on Friday, November 22. The left-handed batter departed after facing eight deliveries, caught at gully as the tourists lost their first wicket for just five runs. This was only Jaiswal’s second duck of his Test career, the first since January 2024 against South Africa in Cape Town.
The dismissal came in the third over of India’s first innings. Starc bowled a fuller-length ball around the fourth stump. The delivery stayed low and Jaiswal went for a drive but could only manage a regulation nick to debutant Nathan McSweeney at gully. This was the 25th time Mitchell Starc has taken a wicket inside his first 10 balls of a Test match.

“Eyes will be on how he performs in Australia” – Parthiv Patel on Yashasvi Jaiswal
Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel recently pointed out that Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to deliver with the bat in South Africa (28 runs in four innings). The cricketer-turned-commentator stressed that Jaiswal needs to prove himself by performing in Australia. He told Colors Cineplex (via Hindustan Times):
“If you see his numbers, when someone performs so well in India, you are eager to see how he performs overseas. His South African tour was not that good, so the eyes will be on how he performs in Australia. You have scored runs in Indian conditions, but if you score runs there as well, you get the stamp of an all-round batter.”
“Yashasvi Jaiswal has everything. The only thing now is that you will get five Test matches in Australia and you just have to make your numbers even better. You are at No. 2 (most runs in the current WTC cycle), you have scored 1,200 [1,407] runs, so the expectations will definitely be there,” he added.
At the time of writing, the visitors were 11/1 after 7.3 overs, with KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal at the crease.
