[Watch] Mitchell Starc yorks Rohit Sharma in IND vs AUS T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match
Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc won the battle against Team India skipper Rohit Sharma in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 clash. The Darren Sammy International Stadium in St.Lucia is hosting the clash (Monday, June 24). The left-arm speedster fired a yorker as the ball took the inside edge before hitting the stumps to rearrange them.
The dismissal occurred in the 12th over of the innings as Mitchell Marsh brought Starc back into the attack to stop the bleeding of runs. He went around the wicket and hit the blockhole. While the right-hander got some bat on it, he merely got an inside edge before hitting the pads and then the stumps. The 34-year-old looked quite pumped to get the opposition skipper for 92 off 41 deliveries.
The Nagpur-born cricketer had earlier taken Starc to the cleaners in his second over even as Australia got the better of Virat Kohli for a five-ball duck. The veteran went on to hammer him for 29 runs, laced with three sixes and a four.
Meanwhile, the toss fell in favor of Mitchell Marsh, who elected to bowl first. The Men in Blue went in with an unchanged side while Australia announced one change, swapping Mitchell Starc for Ashton Agar.
Rohit Sharma becomes the first batter to hammer 200 sixes in T20Is
The 37-year-old opening batter became the first player to hit 200 sixes in T20 international cricket in the second over. In the process, he also overtook Babar Azam as the leading run-getter in the shortest format. It was Rohit's second half-century in this year's tournament, having hammered his first against Ireland in New York.
The Men in Blue are one of the unbeaten sides along with South Africa in the T20 World Cup. They beat Afghanistan and Bangladesh convincingly in the Super 8 stage.
Meanwhile, Australia are in a do-or-die territory after a defeat to Afghanistan and will potentially be knocked out of the competition if they lose to India.
