[Watch] Mohammad Rizwan departs at crucial juncture as Brydon Carse ges him caught in the slips in PAK vs ENG 2024 2nd Test
Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan failed to convert his start into a big score in the second innings of the ongoing Test against England on Wednesday, October 17. The game is being played in Multan.
Rizwan walked out to bat following the dismissal of first innings' centurion Kamran Ghulam (26 off 39). He stitched a 37-run partnership with Saud Shakeel, getting a couple of boundaries under his belt, and looked set for a decent score.
However, on the penultimate ball of the 32nd over, Brydon Carse managed to draw Rizwan into a false shot and induced an edge. The ball took the leading edge and went straight into the hands of Joe Root.
Take a look at the dismissal below:
Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed for 23 runs off 43 balls, leaving Pakistan at 114-5. This was the third time that Carse dismissed him in as many innings. Agha Salman came out to the middle following the wicketkeeper's departure.
Pakistan setting steep total for England in the PAK vs ENG 2024 2nd Test
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pakistan posted 366 runs in the first innings of the second Test of the three-match series. Kamran Ghulam's (118 off 224) maiden Test hundred and a gritty knock from Saim Ayub (77 off 160) gave the hosts a good platform to start off with. Jack Leach and Brydon Carse starred with the ball for England, picking up four and three wickets, respectively.
England couldn't get a repeat of the first Test and conceded a lead to Pakistan. Ben Duckett's 114 off 129 was the only big knock of the innings, with Joe Root (34 off 54) being the second-highest run-getter. Sajid Khan stole the show with the ball as he picked up seven of the 10 wickets, reducing England to 291 and taking a lead of 75 runs.
At the time of writing, Pakistan were 208/8 and leading by 284 runs. They currently trail 0-1 in the three-match Test series.
