[Watch] Mohammad Rizwan departs for a duck on T20I captaincy debut in 2024 AUS vs PAK 1st T20I

Pakistan white-ball skipper Mohammad Rizwan recorded a two-ball duck in the first T20I against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday. The wicketkeeper-batter perished in the second over of the rain-curtailed clash to mark a poor start with the bat in his T20I captaincy stint.

Rizwan sent Australia in to bat first in the seven-over clash after a bout of thunderstorms and lightning shaved off the bulk of the overs. The Men in Green were handed a daunting target of 94 runs as Mohammad Rizwan opened the batting with Sahibzada Farhan.

Rizwan had to get going from the word go, with the required rate reaching the 14-run mark in just the second over itself. The opener tried to take on Xavier Bartlett by going across the line, but ended up getting a leading edge, which hit his helmet and looped up in the air.

Jake Fraser-McGurk ended up with a comfortable catch at backward point to reduce Pakistan to 12-2 after just 1.1 overs.

Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Rizwan was dismissed for a duck in his last T20I innings on Australian soil, when was dismissed off the first ball by Mitchell Starc in Perth, back in 2019.

Pakistan completely crumble in the run chase after Mohammad Rizwan's dismissal

Things only went downhill for Pakistan following Rizwan's dismissal. Bartlett struck again in his first over to dismiss Usman Khan. The visitors lost three wickets in the space of four balls to collapse to 16/5 after 2.3 overs.

As of writing, Australia are on the verge of securing a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after reducing the opposition to 47/6 after five overs.

Wth this result, Pakistan remains without a T20I win against Australia on their turf after recording a 0-2 series loss during the previous tour in 2019.

The second T20I of the series is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 16, at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
