[Watch] Mohammed Siraj traps Marnus Labuschagne lbw for 2 off 52 balls in 1st IND vs AUS BGT 2024-25 Test

Marnus Labuschagne’s vigil at the crease ended as he was trapped lbw by Mohammed Siraj on Day 1 of the first Test between India and Australia in Perth on Friday, November 22. The right-handed batter departed for just two runs off 52 balls, leaving the Aussies reeling at 47/6.

The dismissal came in the 21st over of Australia’s first innings. Siraj bowled a full-length ball straight onto the pads as Labuschagne tried to guide it towards the leg side. The on-field umpire adjudged him out but the batter took a review in desperation. The replay showed the ball would’ve crashed onto the leg stump. Virat Kohli looked especially relieved as he had dropped Labuschagne on a duck.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj deliver after India managed just 150 with the bat in first innings vs Australia

A clinical bowling display, led by skipper Jasprit Bumrah, helped India bounce back against Australia after scoring just 150 in the first innings. Bumrah got rid of debutant Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja, and Steve Smith for 10, 8, and duck, respectively, to provide a promising start to the visitors. Debutant Harshit Rana soon got rid of the dangerous Travis Head to put the visitors in a commanding position.

At the time of writing, the hosts were 59/7, with Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc at the crease. Pat Cummins was the last batter to be dismissed, caught behind by Rishabh Pant off Bumrah.

Batting first, India were bundled out for a modest total within 50 overs. Nitish Reddy, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul were the other bright spots, chipping with 41 (59), 37 (78), and 26 (74), respectively. Big guns Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal departed for five and duck, respectively. The Men in Blue are without regular captain Rohit Sharma (paternity leave) and Shubman Gill (thumb injury) in the first Test.

Josh Hazlewood emerged as the leading wicket-taker, returning with figures of 4/29, while Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Mitchell Marsh bagged two wickets apiece.
