[Watch] Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer smashes an impressive 46 off 30 balls in SMAT 2024 semifinal against Baroda

Mumbai skipper Shreyas Iyer maintained his good form, playing a vital knock in their semi-final match against Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024. The match was held on Friday, December 13, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Chasing 159, Mumbai lost opener Prithvi Shaw early for eight off nine balls. Shreyas Iyer came in at No. 3 and formed a solid 88-run partnership off 56 balls for the second wicket with Ajinkya Rahane. Iyer looked in good touch as he attacked Akash Maharaj Singh in the ninth over, hitting two boundaries and a six.

The 30-year-old made 46 off 30 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes, providing a strong foundation alongside Rahane for the team's victory. Iyer has accumulated 329 runs in eight matches, with one half-century and one century to his name.

Rahane played brilliantly but fell short of a well-deserved century, getting out for 98 off 56 balls, with 11 boundaries and five sixes. Suryansh Shedge sealed the win for Mumbai with a six, as they triumphed by six wickets with 16 balls to spare, securing their place in the SMAT 2024 final.


Decent bowling effort from Mumbai helps restrict Baroda to a low total

Mumbai won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mohit Avasthi struck early, dismissing Abhimanyu Singh for nine. Shashwat Rawat (33 off 29 balls) and captain Krunal Pandya (30 off 24 balls) got starts but couldn’t convert them into big innings.

Bhanu Pania (2) and Hardik Pandya (5) were dismissed cheaply. Atit Sheth contributed 22 off 14 balls, while Shivalik Sharma remained unbeaten on 36 off 24 balls, guiding Baroda to a total of 158/7 in their 20 overs.

Suryansh Shedge took two wickets, while Mohit, Shardul Thakur, Tanush Kotian, Shivam Dube, and Atharva Ankolekar each claimed one for Mumbai.
