[Watch] Mushfiqur Rahim misjudges leave to be bowled by Jasprit Bumrah in IND vs BAN 2024 2nd TestÂ
Bangladesh veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim was worn down and castled by Jasprit Bumrah in the early stages of Day 4 of the second Test against India. Play resumed on Monday, September 30, after the entire weekend was washed out due to rain and the ensuing wet outfield.
Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep kept things tight for India to resume the game, giving the Bangladesh batters no room to operate. The Men in Blue conceded only one run off the first five overs of the day, before Rahim broke the shackles with a boundary against Bumrah to begin the 41st over.
The veteran batter had dealt cautiously with Bumrah, judging the leaves well, and surviving the tempting deliveries right outside the off stump with edges and near-misses. However, he chose to leave a fullish delivery coming in with the angle. The leave proved to be perilous as it hit the top of off stump to hand India the first breakthrough of the day. Have a look at the wicket right here:
Mushfiqur Rahim departed after scoring 11 runs off 32 deliveries, including a couple of boundaries.
Bumrah the key to India's race against time
Bumrah has been given a long spell to start things off on Day 4 as India search for more breakthroughs to force a result in the second Test. With two and a half days washed out due to rain, India only have a couple of days to go through all four innings and try to get a win.
Should the Test end in a draw due to lack of time, India will have to secure five wins and a draw out of their remaining eight Tests to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final without relying on other results. Australia are perched high on the table, while Sri Lanka have made a rapid rise in the rankings with three successive wins of late.
As of writing, Bangladesh are placed at 133-4 after 45 overs, with Mohammed Siraj being introduced into the attack.
