[Watch] Nehal Wadhera takes a leaping catch at point to dismiss Deepak Hooda in MI vs LSG IPL 2024 clash

Mumbai Indians' (MI) Nehal Wadhera took an athletic catch inside the circle to send Deepak Hooda packing in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, May 17. The player took a blow to his back after completing the effort, but it led to MI's third breakthrough of the evening.

LSG were looking to rebuild their innings with KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda in the middle overs after Marcus Stoinis departed in the sixth over. The duo had put on 20 runs for the third wicket, but had to switch gears to make an impact. In the process of doing so, Hooda perished. The right-handed batter tried to take on leg-spinner Piyush Chawla for a stroke over the off side.

However, he could only get a thick edge that made its way to Wadhera at point. It looked like he found the fielder perfectly. However, Wadhera had work to do as he backtracked a bit and executed the timing of his jump to perfection.

The momentum of the jump caused him to land on his back instead of his feet, and that did some temporary damage.

Have a look at the brilliant catch right here:

Hooda departed after scoring just 11 runs off nine deliveries, with a solitary four to his name. It was Piyush Chawla's second wicket of the spell, as he had already trapped Marcus Stoinis LBW earlier.

Deepak Hooda has scored 145 runs in nine innings in IPL 2024

The all-rounder's dismissal to Piyush Chawla against MI ended his woeful campaign with the bat. Featuring in the middle order, Hooda failed to provide the impact that LSG desperately needed. Hooda scored only one fifty as he ended his season with 145 runs in nine innings at an average of 18.1.

LSG have been revitalised following Hooda's departure. With Nicholas Pooran coming in, the momentum has completely shifted. Along with skipper KL Rahul, the Caribbean ace has put pressure on the MI bowlers by putting up a 100-run stand in just over seven overs.
