[Watch] Nicholas Pooran slams 57-ball ton in TKR's mammoth win over GAW in CPL 2024
Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran cemented his status as one of the best T20 batters in the current era after a brilliant hundred against the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He scored 101 runs off 59 deliveries, a knock laced with nine fours and eight sixes.
Pooran had to come in early into bat after Shaqkere Parris was dismissed in the first over. He got into rhythm straightaway, hitting three boundaries off his first six deliveries at the crease, and launched an onslaught in the powerplay to bring his fifty off just 22 deliveries. The left-handed batter struck 13 boundaries inside the first six overs itself.
The end of fielding restrictions did not bring any respite to the opposition as Pooran slammed consecutive sixes off Imran Tahir in the seventh over. He shared a 153-run partnership with Jason Roy, of which the England batter contributed 34 runs.
Pooran got to his ton in the 14th over with a single off Dwaine Pretorius. It marked his third ton in the CPL. Have a look at his innings right here:
Pooran's efforts helped TKR reach 211-5 in the first innings. They recorded their third win in their last four matches to reach 14 points and confirm their qualification for the playoffs.
"One of my best 100s in the CPL" - Nicholas Pooran
Pooran has been enjoying a solid run in the shortest format for a while. In 2024, he was part of the MI Emirates side that won the 2024 International League T20 and had a prolific individual campaign for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Pooran had a mediocre campaign for the MI New York in the 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC), but is currently the second-highest run-getter in CPL 2024, only behind Quinton de Kock.
"It's not about being responsibility or being fearless, I have worked on my execution, I wanted to dig deep and look for my matchup, and execute my plans. It's a good one, getting two 90s already in the competition this year, one of my best 100s in the CPL, any 100 is good, in crunch conditions it's time for us to stand up," Pooran said during the post-match presentation.
TKR are scheduled to face Barbados Royals in their final CPL 2024 league-stage contest on Tuesday, October 1.
