[Watch] Nitish Reddy bowled by Pat Cummins in unfortunate fashion for 16 off 61 balls in BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
Australian captain Pat Cummins struck in the first over of his new spell as he dismissed Nitish Kumar Reddy on day four of the third Test against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. The 31-year-old had the all-rounder chopped onto his stumps to derail the tourists in their bid to save the Test.
The dismissal occurred in the 60th over of the innings as the length ball from the Aussie captain seamed in slightly and Reddy was defending it away from his body. With the ball taking the inside edge off his bat, it trimmed the leg bail on the way through as the youngster showcased his disappointment. He had survived 60 deliveries until that point and the wicket ended the 53-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja.
The 21-year-old has been impressive with the bat in this series so far as he top-scored for the tourists in the first innings of the Perth Test with 41 and followed it up by cracking an unbeaten 38 in the second. He did the same in both innings in the following Test in Adelaide by top-scoring with 42.
Pat Cummins had earlier dismissed Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma
Meanwhile, the right-arm pacer had picked up two more wickets before dismissing Reddy, sending the opposite number Rohit Sharma and keeper-batter Rishabh Pant packing. The 31-year-old was slightly flat in the opening game at the Optus Stadium in Perth but stood out in the following Test in Adelaide, picking up a fifer in the second innings, helping Australia level the series.
The New South Welshman would have had KL Rahul in the first over of day four but Steve Smith dropped a simple chance at slip. However, the 35-year-old made amends as he caught a blinder off Nathan Lyon's bowling. At Tea, India are still nearly 50 runs away from avoiding the follow-on
