[Watch] Omaima Sohail dismisses Hasini Perera with a brilliant turning delivery in SL vs PAK 2024 Women's T20 World Cup clash

Pakistan women's team off-spinner Omaima Sohail turned up for her side while defending a low target in the Group A opening clash at ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 against Sri Lanka at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The spinners had a huge role to play in the second innings after the Pakistani batters could only muster 116 runs after opting to bat first.

The Women in Green got the perfect start after Chamari Athapaththu was dismissed while trying to clear the off-side infield in the third over. Omaima Sohail, introduced into the attack in the final over of the powerplay, castled the left-handed Harshitha Samarawickrama with a delivery that went straight through.

The off-spinner struck in her next over as well to dismiss Hasini Perera with a brilliant delivery. Omaima gave the delivery a lot of flight, floating it up and making the dip tricky to negotiate. The left-handed batter planted her front foot and looked to nudge the delivery to the off-side. However, she was beaten by the turn as the ball went on to hit the top of the off stump. Have a look at her wickets right here:

The dismissal reduced Sri Lanka to 35-3 in the eighth over, leaving them in deep trouble in their run chase.

Omaima Sohail finishes with impressive figures of 2-17 off her four overs

The spinner bowled four overs on the trot, and although she could not pick any more wickets, she played her part by keeping things tight in the middle overs and piling pressure on the Sri Lankan batters. Sohail did not concede a single boundary in the latter half of her spell, eventually ending with 2-17.

As of writing, Sri Lanka are tottering in the run chase, having been reduced to 52-5 after 13 overs. Nashra Sandhu struck twice in quick succession to sink the opposition further. The Asia Cup champions look completely lost in the run chase, with their last boundary coming in the eighth over as Pakistan continue to chip away with wickets.
