[Watch] “Over se hi daal” - Virat Kohli’s plan convinces Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith gets out immediately in BGT 2024-25 3rd Test
During the third Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test, on the final delivery of the eleventh over of Australia's second innings, Mohammed Siraj dismissed Steve Smith for just four runs. It was a good length delivery angling in, that slid slightly down the leg side as Smith tried to glance it away and ended up edging it back to wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, who put in an exceptional dive to complete the catch.
However, there is more to Smith's dismissal as a video showed Virat Kohli, former Indian captain, convincing present captain Rohit Sharma with a plan to dismiss Smith.
Kohli was heard telling Rohit to let Mohammed Siraj bowl from over the wicket. Rohit questioned whether it would be easy for Smith to open up if Siraj bowls from over. However, Virat can be heard saying that if Siraj bowls from over the wicket and bowls the scrambled seam delivery from the middle stump line, there are chances of him getting out.
"Over se hi daal. Over se agar yeh woh scramble wala dalega middle stump se toh out hone ka chance hai. Sqaure leg peeche de de inswing ke liye," Kohli was heard saying.
The plan seemed to have worked as Steve Smith was dismissed immediately after the discussion.
The third BGT 2024-25 Test at The Gabba ended in a draw as rain had the final say on day five. However, with little play possible, India had a fascinating outing with the ball, as Australia declared their innings at 89/7 in an attempt to have a crack at the Indian batters again.
Third BGT 2024-25 Test at The Gabba ends in draw as rain takes center stage
Australia picked up India's final wicket to wrap their innings up for 260 before walking out to bat on the final day of the third Test. Intending to score quickly and ask the visitors to bat again to try and push for a result, the hosts lost a few wickets in a hurry as they declared their innings at 89/7.
This meant that India were set a target of 275 runs to win the Test. However, the visitors batted for just 2.1 overs, getting to 8 for no loss before rain interrupted again, this time putting the game to an end once and for all as the two teams settled for a draw eventually.
The series is now tied 1-1 with two more Tests to be played.
