[Watch] Pakistan players congratulate Joe Root after his dismissal on 262 during 1st Test vs England 2024 in Multan
Pakistan players congratulated England batter Joe Root as he returned to the pavilion after a masterful knock of 262 runs in the ongoing first Test of the series in Multan on Thursday (October 10). He began Day 4 with an overnight score of 176 and continued to milk runs effortlessly against a tired Pakistan bowling attack, who did not have the services of their primary spinner, Abrar Ahmed, due to fever.
Joe Root and Harry Brook added 454 runs for the fourth wicket and put England in a strong position. Root notched up his sixth double-century in the morning session and looked set for a triple hundred in favorable batting conditions.
However, off-spinner Agha Salman eventually dismissed him in the 137th over to give Pakistan a sigh of relief. Some Pakistan players acknowledged Joe Root's fine knock by congratulating him as he walked to the pavilion.

"Only bowler he does not quite line up is Jasprit Bumrah"- Michael Vaughan on English batter Joe Root
Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently heaped praise on Joe Root for his phenomenal performances in Test cricket. He opined that only ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah had the upper hand over Root over the past few years, and no other bowler troubled the English stalwart much. In his column for the Telegraph, Vaughan wrote:
"The only bowler he does not quite line up is Jasprit Bumrah, I reckon, but who does? He will already be working on that and thinking about how to manage him next summer. At the moment, bowlers are waiting for him to make a mistake. There is still plenty for him to tick off, including that missing hundred in Australia. But I watch him bat in Australia and do not see a major technical problem, he just has not cracked three figures yet."
He continued:
"No one has played the different forms of the game better than him, and he has got the runs to show for it. If he plays as long as I am sure he will, he will overtake Sachin Tendulkar and be the leading Test run-scorer. More than just being a great player, he does it all with a smile on his face , and is simply the greatest example for young kids to follow."
