[Watch] Passionate celebrations go off as Gulbadin Naib dismisses Marcus Stoinis and Tim David in 2 overs in AUS vs AFG clash

The celebrations said it all when Gulbadin Naib took out Marcus Stoinis in Afghanistan's must-win clash against Australia at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

With the partnership between Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell taking Australia to 71/3 and slowly pushing the Afghans out of the defense of 149, Rashid Khan brought in Naib to bowl just his fourth over in the tournament. The first ball Stoinis faced was a slow bouncer at just 122 kph that jumped off the surface like a tennis ball to take Stoinis' top edge on the pull.

The ball went over the wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz and two more fielders followed it with him. The communication was good and Gurbaz grabbed it running back, kicking off running and jumping everywhere and Naib's typical biceps flex celebration. Watch it here:

The wicket meant so much not only because of what was happening in the match but also due to Stoinis' form. The all-rounder has been Australia's best batsman in the tournament so far with 167 runs in four innings, including match-winning knocks against Oman and Scotland from similar situations.

Naib turns a game-changing wicket to a game-changing spell

Afghanistan did the right thing by giving Naib a second consecutive over and the pacer immediately reposed the faith. Tim David, the new batter, was trapped in front and given out LBW on the second ball with a sharp nip-backer.

It looked fairly straightforward on the first instance but David's review revealed it was just clipping the leg stump. Luckily for Afghanistan, the decision was upheld and the game was back to the balance.

However, with Maxwell still out there batting past a half-century, considering his history with Afghanistan and what he did in the 2023 World Cup, Australia would still feel confident about their chances. Catch all the live action here.
