[Watch] Pat Cummins and Rohit Sharma grin at Ravi Shastri’s overexcitement during toss in BGT 2024-25 2nd Test
Australia captain Pat Cummins and India skipper Rohit Sharma couldn’t stop smiling at Ravi Shastri’s overexcitement during the toss ahead of the second Test in Adelaide on Friday, December 6. Shastri, as usual, created the hype by sharing the rich history of Adelaide and its legends in his signature style before going ahead with the formalities.
Shastri said at the toss (via Star Sports):
“Magnificent Adelaide Oval. Easily one of the prettiest grounds in the world. We in the city of Churchills, home to Bradman, the Chappell’s and of course the iconic giant scoreboard right out of the heritage this since 1911.”

Ravi Shastri is touring Australia as a commentator after he served as India’s head coach during two successful stints Down Under. Under him, the Men in Blue won by 2-1 margins in the 2018-19 and 2020-21 tours. This time around Gautam Gambhir is serving as the head coach.
Rohit Sharma will be keen to join Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane among Indian skippers to win a Test series Down Under.
Rohit Sharma and company make three changes for the 2nd Test vs Australia; Yashasvi Jaiswal departs for a duck
Rohit Sharma-led India made three changes for the second Test in Australia. Skipper Rohit replaced Dhruv Jurel, while Devdutt Padikkal made way for fit-again Shubman Gill. Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin replaced Washington Sundar as the front-line spinner.
Notably, Rohit will bat at No.6, making way for KL Rahul as an opener. At the toss, he reiterated (via ESPNcricinfo):
“I'm batting in the middle order, which is different but I'm ready for the challenge."
"It looks a good pitch. It obviously looks a little dry at the moment but there's enough grass covering as well. I guess it will have some carry for the fast bowlers but as the game goes on it will get better to bat and there will be something in it for everyone,” he added.
The tourists, however, got off to a poor start as Mitchell Starc dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal for a golden duck in the first over of the contest.
At the time of writing, India were 10/1, with Rahul and Gill at the crease.
