[Watch] Pathum Nissanka smashes five consecutive boundaries off Shamar Joseph during SL vs WI 2nd T20I 2024

Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka was in excellent form, hitting West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph for five consecutive fours. He accomplished this feat during the second T20I on Tuesday, October 15, at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

The hosts benefited from a fortunate four runs from leg byes on the first ball of the fourth over. Nissanka then raised the stakes by striking a superb four over extra cover on the second delivery.

Shamar followed that with a wide and the third ball also resulted in a four. The right-handed batter hit the fourth ball for another four to the mid-off region. The final two deliveries of the over also produced boundaries, as Shamar conceded 25 runs.

Nissanka made 54 runs off 49 balls, featuring nine boundaries and a six, before being dismissed by Alzarri Joseph.


Pathum Nissanka’s fifty guides Sri Lanka to respectable total in 2nd T20I against West Indies

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first, with openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis putting together 52 runs in the powerplay.

The pair added 77 runs off 60 balls for the first wicket before Mendis was dismissed for 26 runs off 25 balls by Shamar Springer. Nissanka also impressed, scoring a solid half-century with 54 runs off 49 balls.

Kusal Perera contributed effectively with 24 runs off 16 balls, including three fours and a six. Kamindu Mendis added 19 runs off 14 balls, helping Sri Lanka finish their innings at 162 for five in 20 overs. Romario Shepherd claimed two wickets for West Indies.

In response, at the time of writing, the visitors were 16 for two after four overs, with Andre Fletcher (2 off 2 balls) and Roston Chase (0 off 1 ball) at the crease.

Debutant Dunith Wellalage provided an early breakthrough for the hosts by dismissing Brandon King for five off eight balls while Maheesh Theekshana removed Evin Lewis for seven.
