[Watch] Phil Salt's off-stump flattened after starting the innings with consecutive sixes in ENG vs OMAN T20 World Cup 2024 match
England opener Phil Salt played an exciting yet extremely short cameo in the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Oman on Friday, June 13. Salt's knock lasted for only three deliveries as Bilal Khan castled the hard-hitting batter.
The incident occurred in the opening over of England's innings as Salt started with two sixes, dispatching both over extra cover. However, Bilal flattened the right-handed batter's off-stump after getting a thin edge on the third delivery. With the defending champions looking for a boost in their net run rate, Salt played his role.
Here's a video of his dismissal:
England headed into the game under severe pressure as they were winless in two matches, with the fixture against Scotland getting washed out, followed by a defeat to Australia. Hence, a group-stage exit looked very much on the cards. However, they responded with aplomb, bundling out Oman for 47 in only 13.2 overs.
Adil Rashid led their bowling effort with figures of 4-0-11-4, while Jofra Archer and Mark Wood snared three wickets each.
England go past Scotland's net run rate after cameos from Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, and Jonny Bairstow
While England lost two wickets, they needed only 3.2 overs to chase down the 48-run target as Jonny Bairstow struck the winning runs. With Jos Buttler's team going past Scotland's net run rate, the Scots must defeat Australia in their final league match on Sunday, June 16, to progress in the Super 8.
Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, have already qualified for the Super 8 stage with wins over Oman, England, and Namibia. The race for the second team to qualify from Group B is between England and Scotland.
The eight-wicket win over Scotland on Thursday ensured that England's fate is somewhat still in their hands. The defending champions' final group fixture is against Namibia in North Sound on Saturday, June 15.
