[Watch] T20 World Cup stars pick the player with better pull shot between Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting
Amid the thrills and spills of the 2024 T20 World Cup, several players were asked to pick the batter with the best pull shot in cricket history. The response oscillated between only two batters - India's Rohit Sharma and Australia's Ricky Ponting.
Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan picked Rohit as his best puller, while South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi went with Ponting.
In a video shared by the ICC on their Instagram handle, Ponting himself admitted that Rohit is one of the best pull-shot artists as he heard the responses from the players.
Here is the video with the players' response to the question - 'Who has the best pull shot'?
Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting are two of the most accomplished batters in cricket history.
During his illustrious career, Ponting scored over 13,000 runs in Tests and ODIs with a combined 71 centuries in 543 games. The former skipper also led Australia to two ODI World Cup titles in 2003 and 2007.
Meanwhile, Rohit has been one of India's best batters in the last decade and a half, with almost 19,000 international runs and 48 centuries. He has also captained India since February 2022, leading them to the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup final last year.
The 37-year-old has led India admirably in the ongoing T20 World Cup as they vaulted through to the Super Eights without losing a game.
Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting played together for Mumbai Indians in 2013
Rohit Sharma and Ricky Ponting were connected uniquely in their lone IPL season together for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2013. Ponting was bought by the franchise in the 2013 auction and was made captain for the season.
However, after a few low scores, the former Australian captain dropped himself and relinquished captaincy to Rohit. Ponting only scored 52 runs at an average of 10.40 in six outings in what turned out to be his last IPL season as a player.
Meanwhile, Rohit took over and delivered immediately with the side winning their maiden title in 2013. He led the franchise until the 2023 season, helping them win four more titles in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
However, Rohit was finally replaced by Hardik Pandya at the helm for IPL 2024 and the side unfortunately finished at the bottom of the points table. The move created a massive outrage among MI fans as the duo also struggled with their individual performances in the season.
